The Colorado State University Collegian on
Nov. 9 contained an opinion condemning a large, inflated donkey,
which the Young Democrats displayed on the campus plaza,
presumably as a protest against the continuation of President
Bush's Iraq war.
The editorial stated that the CSU
Republicans "rallied to support the troops," whereas the donkey
places the Young Democrats "against the troops" and "against
America's finest."
The editorial ended with, "Get your a- off
the plaza. God Bless America, the only country that matters."
The Iraq war was not declared by Congress,
as required by the Constitution. Is it unpatriotic to protest
against an illegal and immoral war, which has cost almost 4,000
American lives, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives, wounded
many, many more, opposed by at least two-thirds of all Americans
and angered almost all of the Arab world against us?
Of the 192 nations in the United Nations,
other than America, isn't there a single "country that matters?"
Should we strive to emulate Hitler, who believed that "Germany
is the only country that matters?" On Nov. 12, I asked seven CSU
ROTC cadets for their opinion on the Nov. 9 statement; everyone
thought that it made no sense.
