The letter of
David Cook on Aug. 30 quotes President George Washington as
stating that no true American ever attempts "to remove religion
from politics." Cook adds that Christian churches should "once
again stand and preach and enforce righteousness in the public
square." His letter comes close to violating the principle of
separation of church and state.
All religious
institutions should express their support of one of the most
moral foundations of all beliefs - namely, that violence and war
should never be used to rectify violations of rights; that
forgiveness and reconciliation are far more acceptable means of
achieving justice. This principle, utilized by all people, who
are spiritual or religious, would help to reduce needless deaths
and sufferings, caused by mindless misconceptions (see
http://www.jesusforbidswar.org/); and would not violate the "separation"
principle. |
